ABOUT THE ROLE
Vertex Control Systems is hiring a Commercial Mechanical Service Technician to service the HVAC equipment behind the buildings we control. You'll cover a portfolio of commercial, medical, and light industrial clients across South Louisiana — preventive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair on RTUs, split systems, AHUs, chillers, boilers, pumps, and cooling towers. Because we're a controls-first shop, you'll also work side-by-side with our BAS technicians to chase down problems that span the mechanical and controls boundary — the kind of stuff a mech-only or controls-only shop can't solve cleanly.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Perform preventive maintenance on commercial HVAC equipment per scheduled PMs
- Diagnose and repair RTUs, split DX systems, chillers, boilers, AHUs, VAV terminal units, and pumping systems
- Use BAS trends and graphics to diagnose problems before climbing on the roof
- Recover and recharge refrigerant per EPA 608 requirements; document leak checks
- Work with our controls team on integrated mechanical + controls service calls
- Communicate clearly with customers on site, write clean service tickets, and recommend follow-up work
- Maintain company van, tools, and inventory
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 3+ years commercial HVAC service experience (not residential-only)
- EPA 608 Universal certification
- Strong electrical and refrigeration troubleshooting skills
- Comfortable working on rooftops, in mechanical rooms, and on ladders
- Valid driver's license, clean MVR
- Customer-facing professionalism and clear written reporting
NICE TO HAVE
- +Chiller experience (centrifugal, screw, scroll) — Trane, York, Carrier, Daikin
- +Boiler experience (condensing, fire-tube)
- +Familiarity with BAS graphics — Niagara, Distech, or similar
- +Welding/brazing, NATE certification
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive base salary with performance bonuses
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) with company match
- Paid time off and paid holidays
- Company vehicle or vehicle allowance for field roles
- Tools, laptop, and certifications paid by the company
- Continuing education: Niagara N4, BACnet, and OEM training
